I suggest that you offer him support, give him the number of a good (reputable) rehab treatment center, and tell him that you can't be around him until he takes the big step of getting clean. Users don't just use drugs. Don't fall for the "I need you, you are my only friend" routine. You will wind up feeling miserable and he will stay high or choose on his own to get help. If he's dealing, honey, and addicted, he probably needs medical help so that the withdrawal doesn't kill him. Good luck to your friend and stay strong.

1)The decision to quit is the first step. Before your friend quits he must want to quit, if he doesn't decide to quit he will have no motivation to stay quit.
2)Your friend needs to change his number and move somewhere where drugs well no longer be offered.
3) Then he will have to get through the come down, a good friend can help distract him from the pain. Your friend may become emotional violent or suicidal be ready for anything.
Be wary of relapse drugs and replacement drugs. Pharmaceutical company's are very dishonest with doctors about drugs side effects. All illegal drugs were once prescribed regularly by respected physicians, but that dose not mean they are safe. Even watch out for over the counter medicine.
Repeat steps 1-3 as needed

Your friend may not want my answer, but, after 20+ years as a mental health practitioner, heavily focusing on substance dependence and abuse, now retired, I have a very simple, and yet very debunked method of getting off of and staying off any and all chemicals, and addictive behaviors. You'll recognize it, maybe, when I say "Just say no!" If you had treated and referred as many addicts as I have, and you had read as many treatment "contracts" put forth by these high priced treatment hospitals, you'd see, in the fine print, the words, "Of course, ultimately it's up to the patient to follow our recommendations and stop using drugs and alcohol." Now, in case you missed the point here, what they're saying is that, no matter what their recommendations are, if the addict doesn't stay off drugs or alcohol, then the addict won't get clean and stay clean. Well, DUUHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!! And how much money did addicts have to pay through insurance premiums or their own private stash, to realize that Nancy Reagan's words, FREE WORDS I might add, were THE ONLY WORDS that treatment centers of any kind at all could and would "hang their hats" on for the final measure of whether their "treatments" worked. As Knowhereman said, "Pray to God", as well. I just don't know where and when the addict will finally catch on to God's care and love, but when he or she does catch on, that is even a better treatment than "Just say No". But those three words of Nancy Reagan's will do fantastically, whether one believes in God or not. God will just make it easier to do. God Bless you.

First, and most importantly, the person has to WANT to quit using drugs.
Then, the person should actively change his/her environment so that his/her drug using friends and acquaintances are not around to be a negative influence. In other words, find new friends.
Going to NA meetings is a possible way to meet new people.

There are many ways to kick...I knew a man who quit smoking, drinking, and drugs,...all in the same day, and never went back...it was mind over matter...but if your friend is afraid,...tell him to go to his doctor...and ask for something to help him come down...something maybe to help him sleep,...and he is going to need will power and prayer for strength...and he can do it...it takes more to quit than to deal and take them...we all know that..

Those drugs really fried your brain when you should have been paying attention in school, huh? Try studying your English usage and sentence construction instead of shooting up.
