we have gotten a little bit of flack for not having a wedding so that close friends, and family can attend.

It's not that it's a bad idea... it's just that those that love you both want to be a part of your special day. Can you really blame your family and close friends for wanting to celebrate your special once in a lifetime day with you? It's not just about the two of you, it's about two families coming together. Priority though... it's about the two of you!

It's your wedding do what you want to. I have been married 10 years. We did not have a wedding for family and friends. We got married at the courthouse and only invited our two witnesses and a friend to take a few pics. My mom was pissed that she wasn't invited, but my mom and mother in law are so different. They don't get along and I didn't want either of them to mess things up. I don't regret it for a minute. We are still married, whether witnessed by three people or three thousand.

no. weddings are about you two committing to each other in the eyes of god. it's not about who's there no matter how much people think. perhaps you all could compromise by having the wedding and doing a reception for your close friends and family to attend.

Hey they are the people who can't attend you go right ahead and continue to plan your dream wedding when you get back have a dinner to accommodate the ones who where not able to travel perhaps they will relax when you announce a dinner so they to can enjoy and celebrate with you and your husband.

Do it that way if you want, but it's pretty selfish. Weddings should be a family event.
