Picassa and the like are EXTREMELY simple editors for fixing contrast or overall colorshift, etc. If you want something to delete a person or thing from a photo or improve the exposure in one small section, you need an editor with some POWER to it. Two of the best of the freebies are:

PhotoPlus - http://www.freeserifsoftware.com/ - it's a photoshop level program. works like Photoshop anything you learn in it will transfer to Photoshop, if you get it

The Gimp - http://www.gimp.org/windows/ - Very powerful but VERY different from photoshop.

what i did was went to walmart and bought a webcam with a cd of editing included, then downloaded the cd and took everything back the next day.

go to google, and type in picasso.
its a free editing program.
I use and its great.
downloads pretty fast too!
