I understand it can be an individual thing too. I understand it sometimes depends on how good the dialect coach is. But honestly, more brits seem to be able to fake a believable american accent than vice versa; especially in movies. Although I have to say, irish actors do a really good job of it also, like Colin Farrell. American actors rarely pull of the brit accent.

This is most likely because English actors tend to have much better and extensive acting training than do Americans. English actors receive much more training in dialect, phonetics, and pronunciation, with plenty of vocal training.

They get speech coaches to train them to speak with the correct accent. Many people had no idea Gwyneth Paltrow was an American because of her English (UK) accents. There are many different English accents just like there are many different American accents.
