Why shouldn't you drink alcohol when taking darvocet? Is it because the alcohol will increase the effects or is it that the combination will cause liver damage?

Both of these are central nervous system depressants. Depress the central nervous system enough and you will stop breathing and your heart will stop beating and you will, ummm, die. Needless to say, drinking alcohol while taking any drug like Darvocet is incredibly dangerous. You could easily fall asleep and never wake up again.

Darvocet is a "narcotic analgesic," a pain-killer which depresses the CNS.

Alcohol is a "sedative/hypnotic," which also depresses the CNS.

Too much sedation leads to coma and can be fatal.
