Though I'm not sure on all the details, I do know that the nation of Pakistan was formed when Indian Muslims and Hindus couldn't peacefully co-exist. However, I'm not sure exactly where the impetus was--more recent history is not my specialty.

Buddhists, I think, could technically be termed in a holy war at the moment, with China's takeover of Tibet, but they certainly wouldn't see it that way and are attempting to come to a peaceful resolve of the issue.

No such thing as a holy war. Japan and China were known to start a few wars, India has had a share of their own. Shall we also include the wars of atheistic communism and the wars of pagan countries in past history?

I suppose that depends on how you define "Holy War". Certainly the Cambodians, who were Buddhists, once invaded Thailand and made a point of destroying Thai Buddhist temples.

There are militant sects of Hindus in India, militant mostly against Muslims, I guess. And there have even been places in Asia where Buddhist monks from different monasteries have had fist fights with each other (in the news recently). Not exactly wars, but anger, self-centeredness and violence are in all people of all religions.

Fundamentalist Hindus are extremely violent, and burn mosques as happily as fundamentalist Muslims blow up restaurants. Read something about contemporary India.

Find a Buddhist sovereign, and you'll find one who's waged war. War is an inevitable part of statecraft, and true pacifists end up killed by their opponents.

Actually, I believe Buddhists are the only group that has never started a war! All the more to follow their example, wouldn't you say? : )

There have been the cases where even Buddhists have promoted or started wars, but they obviously were still very ignorant and didn't follow the teachings too closely obviously haha.

The war of partition between India and Pakistan were essentially between the different religions (Hinduism and Islam). It would be too simplistic to say that Hindus started a holy war - but that was one of the dividing criteria between the two sides.
