I don't know if religious types have lower IQ's, I think they have low self-esteem. Atheists maybe think for themselves more and don't feel threatened by the dire consequences set out in the bible if you don't follow their rules. The real function of religion is to control people with fear.

Non-occidentals come out bad in IQ tests, does this make all non occidentals "unintelligent"? Also most atheists are occidentals, and as such the evidence is skewed rather a lot, seeing as religious people lumped as a whole are spread over the planet. How big were the samples and were they random (i.e. from the four corners of the earth?). Comparing relative intelligence is not easy and it would take an extremely intelligent man to develop such a test. I myself do not belong to any religion (but am not an atheist), but I do not consider myself more intelligent than a priest or a member of the congregation/flock. If you have based your decision upon sound evidence, then you are more intelligent than most atheists who just cannot be bothered to look for any evidence and your main line of argument is questioning those with a belief, until they give up in exasperation.

At least religious people have an answer for "who made the world"? The Mapuches, Christians, Hindus etc seem to have one uo on the atheists and you do not like it??

The majority? Perhaps. But my IQ was above average even when I used to be a Christian. the only one thing that separated me from them, was that I was curious... and that I hated BS. Actually, the only reason why I was religious in the first place was because I was raised that way. So... I guess that it is true... because eventually I became an atheist. How can an intelligent person believe in myths?

When I took my last IQ test, it turned out that I had an IQ of 140 and I was only 13.

Search my answers - someone else posted this same question, and I put down a link to several studies showing that religious people tend to score lower on IQ tests, tend to do less well in subjects that require critical thinking, etc.

Of course, I got a lot of crap for it too. But I cant help if it I found the truth!

faith appeals to those that have little or no get entry to to the techniques in which we examine, objectively, that which became as quickly as inexplicable and elementary to characteristic to a extra physically powerful ability. This, reinforced with custom and shortage of training, is possibly why religious human beings regularly have a decrease IQ than Atheists. information is ability.

Having faith or being religious, whatever flavor, is not so much a reflection of a person's intelligence, but a product of upbringing.
Most societies believe in some form of "higher power", be it the Christian's "Jesus" or the Islamic "Allah" or the Hindu "Buddha"
(sorry if I got any of those wrong, just using examples).
If you're really interested in finding out, ask a Mensa member, top 2% of the population in intelligence.

No not at all. many very high IQ scientists agree that there are some answers that science cannot explain, in some cases it is almost like the universe was manipulated just for us to exist.
That being put aside, it is true that many christians do not look beyond the bible for answers to all things. That in itself creates a closed mind that refuses to explore beyond a certain page.
Buddha siad that religious texts where a roadmap that helped us to reach a certain place, a bit like a raft that helps us to cross a stream, and after we had reached that place we should let the raft go and continue to explore on our own. taking with us all that we had learned but no longer making it the basis of our life.
It is very sad that many modern christians cannot do that and seem to try to find answers within a few pages of scripture for every question under the sun, when really, most of them should have moved on.
