And I am amazed how well informed folk are. I have tried for years to read all of the bible but have never suceeded. Though I do remember St Pauls apostle to the chorinthians about the great virtues of faith, hope and love the greatest being love. I would like to know have you read the bible end to end and what book or testament has stayed with you throughout your life. And perhaps influneced you most. You do not neccessarily need to be a practising christian, but something that you were taught at school in in religous studies.

The point of my question is as I explained that I am amazed well people know the bible. You must admit it is not the easiest of books to read especially some of the books from the old testament. I think that many people who read the bible are not necessarily followers. But have the urge to read it for many different reasons.

Another question do you think that most people are embarrassed to talk about religion openly? I feel that many of us do not admit that we believe in god.

I have never started from genesis and read straight thruough to revelations but I have read every book of the Bible. I love Isaiah and I also have my favourite psalms (Ps 139, 27 and 119). I love Pauls epistles too.
Lately Ive not been able to sit myself down as much as I would have loved to do so I bought myself an Audio Bible which I listen to. Its the best thing Ive done! I can listen to so many chapters while I relax, but I must confess its pretty difficult to memorise verses if you arent reading.
To your second question, I think many of us are a bit shy to declare our beliefs in public, but when we do we would be surprised at how many people share our convictions!

I have read the Bible for years and have to say that I have not gone cover to cover - in order. I have read the whole Bible however by reading it consistently. I would have to say that the book is a whole picture not the bits and pieces that we think. You can get something out of it dissected but to understand what the author was telling us - author being God - you need to read it as a whole theme. The theme is that God created the earth and all that is in it. It was done for His purpose and in His time. Man fell and that means that humans would no longer spend eternity with God. He bought mankind back to himself by sending Christ to live and die and rise again. The old testament points to this and prophesies about it and the new testament shows how it was fulfilled. All along the info is in the form of historical accounts, parables and lessons which show how God interacts with people and reveals His nature. There is another point here and possibly the most important. Christians believe that until you are drawn by the Holy Spirit to God the Father, you cant fully grasp the information. The Bible says that to know God and Jesus is eternal life and the bible shows us who they are and reveals all that we need to know them. It is also said that Jesus is the Word.
That is not to say that the principles aren't applicable to everyone, however.

I have read the bible cover to cover at a long forgotten stage in my life. . . what is more interesting and an essential guide of a bible study is the history of the bible and how it was composed.
I don’t want to spoil it for you but I’ll give you a sneak revelation….
Do you know that Jesus is a made up name…… the really name of the son of Mary could not be pronounces easily in English so they made up a name with vowels in it!
Like this there are a lot of fascinating things to discover about the formation of the collection of scripts we call the bible. Research it, because something learned is something never wasted.

I have read most of the bible completely but not in order. I started with the book of John. When I was born again and didn't know very much spiritually I was told to start with this book because it has the most important statement in it that at that time of being a baby christian that I should be able to hold onto and cherish. John 3:16 "or GOD so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten SON, so that whosoever believeth in HIM, shall not perish, but have everlasting life." I guess this thought, of what HE has done not just for me but for you and everyone that will believe in HIM, tells you of the great choice of FAITH we are offered by HIM........and HIS graciousness in the way it is presented.......you have the CHOICE........HE wants your love........but gives you the CHOICE.........YOU as a person would become very frustrated if you loved someone and didn't ever get their LOVE returned........put HE is so patient and continues to knock on your door........as human beings we would never have that much patience. So those words to me really showed me how much HE loved ME. HE will wait years and years for HIS love to be returned sometimes........never giving up on people and the prayers he hears from others for a person to recieve HIM. THEN one day......they make HIM their LORD and SAVIOR and to think that HE waited all that time patietly...........WOW!

I hate to admit it but I have never read the bible end to end! I'm not sure if anything I have read has actually stayed with me throughout my life...and I'm 59. I enjoyed reading the few books and testaments that I did manage to read though. I just try to obey the Ten Commandments and be a good person.

I love reading my bible. Proverbs makes me laugh and the book I go back to over again is Ephesians. Although the idea of meeting Paul , the author of that book, one day is quite scary as I think he must have been scary to know. Give me a conversation with Jesus every time.

I haven't accolmplished reading the whole bible either, but I'm working on it. I would say that Corinthians has been very important in my life, but I think I have spent the most time reading the Psalms because how much God has spoken to me through them. It really helps when life seems hard. I'm definitely no bible scholar compared to many, but I know when I feel the connection to God when I read the bible.

I have read the Bible cover to cover 12 times and will continue to do so. Even before I was a Christian I enjoyed reading it. It is a fascinating book even if you dont believe what it says. The verse that has stuck with me the most has been 2 Cor 4:18 So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

I was not well informed about the Bible until I had a "Damascus Road experience." GOD had been trying to get my attention for years, but I was not listening. It took something really bad to happen to me before I became willing to be obedient to the LORD's will.
Since that event, I have read the Bible through every year: King James version this year, Living Bible version in 2005, NIV in 2004, etc.
Good luck and GOD bless.
