I am a returned Peace Corps volunteer, and I am organizing a project to assist rural Guatemalan farmers. We are introducing purebred livestock to improve the breeding stock of their animals, and teaching them environmentally sound practices that work for their climate. The group I work with also focuses on gender equality and economic stability. I fund my work through private donations, government grants, and sales of my artwork (web site coming soon)

In addition, I have been a volunteer with youth for over 17 years, and do a lot of public outreach work on my own to promote my project, science, and leadership skills.

Finally, i have been involved with adult job skills training and science continuing education, to help people advance and/or start their careers. I also always try to support local causes, stroes, farmers, and charities.

Bible study at the County Jail (Jail Ministry-Ladies division). It's a detention facility...not a correctional facility.

Nope not paid monetarily...I'm blessed by doing the Lords work... and the retirement plan is out of this world!

Important work, I think so. I know the ladies enjoy it too. It gives them something to look forward too...and it also helps the deputies. When the ladies have a program to go to whether it's Bible Study or studying for their GED...it's sometime to look forward too.

I was in the Welcoming Ministry at Church and they (Jail Ministry) had a table set up, looking for volunteers. I didn't know I had a passion for this calling...but I do. God / Jesus ROCKS!

How does it help? In so many ways...they are reminded that they are special and are worth something and someones time. Some of them feel like they are "throw aways" and they aren't. They are special to God / Jesus and they are special to me.

Sometimes they are in the wrong place at the wrong time...maybe just an unpaid parking ticket...might be much worse. I'm not there to judge them, just to teach them the Gospel of Jesus.
