Daisy (Old English Sheepdog) is 59 days pregnant today. 2nd Litter. She has limited her food intake to almost nothing; this has been going on since day 55. She doesn't show any signs of nesting, her behavior hasn't changed much; she follows me around to every room as normal and seems very relaxed. The only thing I have noticed is that last night she began asking to go outside much more often than usual. I have been monitoring her temp for five days now, yesterday it was at its lowest 98.4; but it always seems to rise to 100.5 before bedtime (9pm). During the past few days she has almost doubled in size and I can see the movement of her puppies from across the room. What other things should I be I looking for? How long do you think it will be before she goes into labor? Any and all information is welcome, thank you ahead of time. I want to be as ready as I possibly can! THANK YOU!

I spoke with the vet Monday morning and she said we should expect the litter to be born any day. Also, I did do my research but it never hurts to gain knowledge from others, isnt that what this website is for? Lastly, she licking herself every hr or so. Thanks for all of your help!

With my girls, when they have a hard drop from over 100.0* down to 98.4* - 98.2*, they will deliver within 24 hours.

59 days is the very earliest your Daisy should deliver. In fact, 66 days is not uncommon in larger dogs. 63 days is just the average.

Have you checked her to see if she has milk yet? If not, do that. Has she been losing her mucus plug (stringing)? You say she's not in any distress, so i just wouldn't worry too much about it tonight, were i you.

Give the vet a call in the morning and tell him your findings that you wrote above, as well as whether or not she's been stringing or has milk. S/he'll know how to properly advise you for your Daisy.

Good luck! =)

Okay you need to watch out for spotting. Which is spots of blood, which will be a sign that she is in labour. Her nipples will also look pretty full. She will be swollen. When the puppies come out, most will be in a sac. She will break them open and clean them off. The more puppies and the longer the labour the more tired she will become, and may require your help. Once she does go into labour watch her carefully. There could be long gaps between the puppies. My dogs first litter she had like 9 that night, after three hours we thought she was done. When we woke up she had 12. You must be careful that the dog has alot of room and doesn't crush or smother one of them. By accident of course.

I think your dog should go into labour at any time, good luck!

She will as you mentioned slow down eating, also she will clear her bowels ans may have several stools a few hours to 12 hours before birth. She may be clingy, she may want to rest and be by herself in a private area. One of the first of the absolutes, is her losing her mucus plug. You might see this a few hourse before to a daybefore. Any wetnesson her rear end means impending birth. Stay close to her. You can dab her rear with a papertowel every now and then to see if she has a discharge. But really the biggest thing is patience and a close watch.

Sounds like she is just about ready. If no pups have arrived by tomorrow, you might want to take her in and have the vet look at her. There is a thing called uterine inertia where they may not actually go into active labor, or they can go into labor and then the labor stops. Hope she and the pups will be okay.

Okay, when the temp drops to 96-98 degrees, you are about 12 hours (to 24hours) from puppy time. Since it was yesterday, I would say, get her settled into her whelping box and put the coffee on, you are in for a long night!! Keep your vets number handy and sit back and enjoy
good luck

You should have a proper whelping box and all the other equipment you may need. Sorry but another byb that shouldn't be breeding at all. God I'm sick of it. Are you not aware that it will be your dogs in rescue / shelters in a year or two. 4le... try spending a few weeks in rescue and see if you feel the same... and try spending a few weeks trying to help people whose dogs are a medical nightmare and in pain because of people breeding when they don't know what they are doing. I do have a life - a very full one with plenty of friends. But I also am involved in rescue and helping people and I am sick of people breeding and not taking responsibility for the lives they create.

try to relax first of all. If this is her second litter, she knows what she is doing. keep in touch with your vet and stay calm. she feels your energy and looks to you to keep her safe. Is she still drinking? As long as she stays hydrated and eats a little, she will be fine. If it was my dog, i would be on the phone to the vet ALOT.... hahaha good luck

just be patient and keep an i on her. and remember she'll feed off your anxiety so be calm. if your still concerned call and talk with your vet. i know what your feeling my cat just gave birth on Sunday and i couldn't relax either. the best person to make you feel at ease is your vet so just give them a call. id rather be overally concerned than not worried at all

The average gestation period for dogs is 63 days. She should be pretty close by now. She might not change her behavior until birth is imminent. Good luck.
