Depends on the circumstances - where was he when he said he did and when he said he didn't and who was around him at the time?
He might be denying it because he's too shy to go through with asking you out, or it might be (like with my friend's situation) that he tells you he likes you just so that he can what he wants from you behind closed doors, but publicly denys it. If you think it might be the latter, ignore him.

It means he is trying to achieve "hand" (Seinfeld reference). Basically, if he says he likes you then you have the control, or hand if you will. But if he knows you like him, then by him acting like he doesnt know you, he gets hand back and can move the relationship in the direction he wants it. Its all about hand

he's an ASSHOLE!!! he is trying to be popular. heres what i did, walk up to him when he is with his friends and say that you don't care if ge likes you if he's gonig to treat you like this
