My 19 month old has been crying (not just her tantrums as asked in another questions) but it just seems to come out of no where.

Like the other day daddy or I just looked at her and she burst into tears! We were both puzzled by her outburst. A few nights she woke up crying and often continues to after we pick her up. THe other night she woke up crying and I walked with her, talked with her, and rocked her. She would stop for a few minutes and then start wimpering and crying again.

If we ask her what is wrong we of course get no answer, she isn't talking much, but we still ask.

I try everything change her diaper, put orajel on her gums (I think she is still cutting molars), and even given her something to drink (a yogurt smoothie the other night seem to do the trick).

Am I just not getting it or is there isn't anything "to get" (as if THAT made since)?

Thanks!

It doesn't seem to be happening enough to worry us, just puzzling. She isn't constipated and there is never any fever (first thing I check).

All I know to do it is hold her and try to calm her down, sometimes it works. Like the one night I thought she was hungry, she wouldn't take any food and she wouldn't take a drink, but the yogurt smoothie worked.

It is just puzzling.

My daughter doesn't have a routine. Mainly because I work days and my fiance works nights. We just follow her cues on what she wants. It has worked since she was a newborn (doc said wake and feed her every two hours, she wouldn't eat unless she wanted to).

If it gets worse I will call her doctor and see what she says. But right now we haven't had a really bad one, except that one night she wimpered and cried for probably a good twenty minutes and was then quieted down by the yogurt smoothie. LOL! Yogurt smoothie? I didn't think it would work, I just figured if she didn't want it to put it in the fridge for the morning.

Also I have put two nightlights in the room (both dim) one next to her crib and one that is little brighter next to my bed across the room (we share a room, only a one bedroom apartment).

Thanks for the help and advice, I am still learning and I find asking helps! :-)

It could be teeth; it could also be an earache . If it has gone on too long , see a doctor-especially when a fever is involved . Many times the last thing you suspect is an earache ; and many times that can be the case . There's usually a good reason -unless they are just tired & cranky .

If you are sure this is not caused by the medical reason, she might be having nightmares. Is there some change in her daily routine? Or something might have startled her during the day recently? My son once had something like this for a period of time but it went away eventually. Just be there for her and it will pass. You might also want to check to see if there's anything in her room that's fightening her. (Like too dark, or a shadow by some object in the room.)

Have you checked to see if she has a fever? Maybe her stomach is upset or she's constipated. It could be a number of things. Or, maybe it's not anything.

Sorry to be so imprecise! If it continues and you are still worried, maybe you need to consult the pediatrician for peace of mind.

Good luck!

Remember that if she isin't talking that much yet crying is the only way she can express herself. I would wait until her next dr's appt and then ask but I don't think you should be worried.

if it happening at night it may be nightmares. my daughter has nightmares about dinasaurs (she is a very fluent talker for just turned 3 or i never would have guessed that) if it is a scared cry that might be it. or maybe she is just teething.

Toddlers sometimes cry because they miss someone, lacktose illtollerent, stressed, tired, there diaper. They may have molars, or perhaps something is hurting them.

Good luck!

You don't cry for no reason, do you?

She must have a reason. It just may take some patience to figure out what her reason is.
