Cars always represent freedom and power, both important to teenagers. But I would say the heyday of the car culture was more the fifties and early sixties than the sixties per se. Cars were already becoming less important to teenagers' status in the sixties than they were before.

60's, 70's or today the influence is the same. The car of choice for young people is fast and cool looking.
