Does anybody here own a shetland sheepdog?
I just want more info about my 7 month puppy. Also,
when do I have to clip his nails?
Or should his vet do it?

You can do the nails, have your Vet show you how. There is also info on the internet.

It is hard to know what other kind of information you are looking for, do you have specific questions about the breed?

I would get him into training classes, hopefully he went to a puppy class.

I have ownd sheltland sheepdogs along with every breed imaginable!

Here is alittle breed info on shelties:

This popular little herding dog is a favorite of families because they are easy to train and are so playful. Shetland Sheepdogs can be aloof with strangers at times, but they are highly intelligent and loyal to their family.

PURPOSE OF BREED: Developed in the rugged Shetland Islands off the North Westerly coast of Scotland, this small hardy breed of herding dogs was created to work amongst the rocks, herding the sheep.

AVERAGE LITTER SIZE: 6 puppies

Size
HEIGHT: MALE : 16in (41cm) - FEMALE : 13in (33cm)
WEIGHT: MALE : 25lbs (11kg) - FEMALE : 25lbs (11kg)

Grooming
Double-coated, this breed has a long, straight and coarse topcoat. Shetland Sheepdogs requires regular brushing to keep their coat clean and mat free. The colors of this dog are black, blue merle, and sable. As for the trimming, is your dog an inside dog? If so then the dog's nails will grow longer then an outside's dog's nails because of no nature substances to naturally wear down the nail. I, in the begining did have my vet to clip my sheltie's nails but now I do my dog's, cats, ferret's nails. If you want to do it yourself, get a dog clipper, preferbably with the quick stopper. Never cut the quick as it is is blood vein and could cause non stop bleeding and pain to your dog. How to identify the quick is the red line in the nail. Here is alittle trade secret: clip right below where it starts to curve. I personally would recommend a vet to do it at first so you can see how it is done and ask your vet what he/she thinks.

Hope i was of help to you

Life Expectancy
14 years

Trivia
The American Shetland Sheepdog Association, parent club of the breed, was organized at the Westminster Kennel Club in 1929, and held its first specialty show in 1933. (Credit: AKC.org)

I am a sheltie breeder and am happily owned and bossed around by 10 of them!!
What all do you want to know?
You can e-mail me with questions or go to my web site at www.summerlandhillsshelties.com. or go to www.assa.org. (which is the national parent club). Yahoo also has A LOT of sheltie chat lists. I personally recomend Sheltie Mania, Sheltie Chronicles.
Nails, go to walmart and go to the tools section where the drills and saws are. Get a Dremel. It costs around $20. This is a small rotary sander. You can sand the nails down. I do it about every 3-4 weeks. (I need to do it tomorrow for my guys!!)
Please, please feel free to contact me and please join the chat lists. There are some really nice people on there and you will learn a lot!!
