Most hunting rifles are not that accurate. The barrels are not made that kind of shooting out the box. You need a heavy target grade barrel as found on the sniper & police versions of the 700. Even then, .5 MOA a high standard to reach. 1 MOA is more common. Also you need Match grade Ammo or Handloads. Typical hunting rounds again, will not meet .5 MOA from a Hunting grade rifle.

Stay with the Remington. Do get the heavy barrel. I have seen the varmit or psp if broken in correctly do 1/4 moa with Federal match ammo 168gr.

So it is not unreasonable to expect 1/2 moa.

My husband and I had a gunsmithing business for 15 yrs till his health went bad. I have seen a lot of rifles and Remington has always been good.

Go with the Ruger Target Grey in 308. It will be more likely to give you sub MOA groups. Match grade ammo, or handloads will be vital to getting really good groups though.

Neither of those rifles are likely to produce that, the Remington 700 is the better of the two rifles though.

I'd go with the Remington, but pratically speaking you are really talking about 1" MOA.

The .308 is very accurate with match ammo.
