I would guess to cover the cost of insurance the company has to carry for when someone sues them because the unpasteurized milk has something in it that makes them sick....
...or just whatever process they use to make the milk safe is more expensive than the regular process.

Because homogenized and pasteurized milk lasts longer. Raw milk must be delivered immediately and sold within hours of milking it from the cow whereas H&P milk lasts weeks.
Same for fresh squeezed OJ vs. from concentrate.

Didn't know you could still buy it.Probably expensive because it is scarce.
When I was a kid we milked two cows and sold the extra milk as well as eggs from our flock for cash. the cows were tested and a certificate was required for the milk. All we did was strain it through a milk filter. after a day the cream would build up on the top. I alway had a quart jar with heavy cream to put on oatmeal or smash rice krispies into. Sorry to go off ,lotts of memories to that question.
