I've always wondered the difference between a Registered Nurse and an Advanced Registered Nurse Practitioner?

The difference is in education and licensure. A registered nurse, cannot prescribe medication, ARNP can. A registered Nurse cannot perform invasive procedures like suturing a wound, ARNP can. There are many differences, but what it boils down to is more education and licensure.

A Nurse Practitioner has more licensure then an RN. An RNP can write prescriptions, an RN cannot.
