Yes and no, depending upon whether you're a dog or a human. The bacteria in the dog's mouth is "dog" bacteria; the bacteria in the human's mouth is "human" bacteria. Except for rabies, which can transmit from dog to human, the vast majority of other diseases/germs pass dog-to-dog or human-to-human.

A dog will eat a semi-decayed cat ~ even your perfectly manicured and pampered, delicate little Maltese, Yorkie or Standard Poodle cannot resist such a treat. People don't do that (and if they do, i don't want to know!). So you cannot say that a dog with a mouthful of bacteria that has resulted from eating something that has undergone the process of decay has a cleaner mouth than a human.

If a dog bites another dog and breaks the skin, the bitten dog will likely get an infection particularly if the bite is in an area it cannot lick. If a child bites another child, typically the bitten child will get an infection. Dog germs infect dogs; people germs infect people. (However, if the dog that just ate the rotten cat bites you, it would be a demonstration of intelligence to see your doctor right quick.)

The reason dogs' wounds heal so quickly when they can lick them is because (a) their tongue debrides the wound and (b) the licking increases the circulation in the wound area.

Regardless of any findings on "Mythbusters," or any "docters" on here, or anything else you've heard, it really is an old wives tale that dogs' mouths are cleaner than human mouths.

Depends.

The mouths of people are cleaner due to hygienic practices: we brush our teeth 1 to 3 times daily and many use anticeptic mouthwash.

Imagine how unsanitary your mouth would be if you didn't do that for 6 months straight. Your mouth would be as dirty or dirtier (and worse breath) than a dog (which typically don't get their teeth brushed or mouths anticeptically rinsed on a daily basis). My dog doesn't have bad breath and his teeth are pearly white and he has never had his teeth brushed.

On the other hand, some pampered poodle getting daily toothbrushing & several breath-buster biscuits a day probably has a cleaner mouth than some homeless dude on the street.

No they are not. Dogs and cats have bacteria in their mouths that can be dangerous, even fatal to some people. There is a bacteria called Capnocytophagia that lives in the mouths of animals. If a person is immune suppressed, has no spleen, or has liver problems, and comes in contact with it, it is highly dangerous, and can kill if not treated properly. My ex-boss is a vet and has no spleen. He had some cat scratches on his hands and gave a stray dog a pill without using gloves. Within 7 hours he was in intensive care in renal failure and with D. I. C. He was in the hospital for 6 weeks, and very nearly died. Also there is a bacteria called MRSA. It is a serious staff infection, that is highly infectious, and can be transmitted through the saliva of a dog or cat.

let me say that in a way that makes u understand !dogs have a cleaner mouth cos they always love with no strings or asking for something in return tat is all and they never swear they just bark and use their mouth in defending us so they r better than us in these stuff.
but about dirty or clean mouth it is another issue cos defindely not clean it is god creation but with their tongue tey can heal their wounds it is a miracle i know but it is what doctors vet ones know so it is not clean their mouth in away and clean in another prespective hope that helps to answer ur question:).

no they are not. that legend was started when people found out that their is something in a dogs mouth that aids in healing wounds thats why when dog licks its wounds thay heal faster but it has no cleansing properties. People are just stupid. A dogs mouth is dirty and whoever lets a dog lick them is too.

Of course, we eat a lot more stuff then we do. We put our fingers in out mouths which is a lot more dirtier than their butts!

the snout is the key!
there is more air and less depth

Yes. Not only was it proven on myth busters, but they produce less bacteria daily than humans do. It's simple anatomy, dear.

Sorry if that scares you.
