You should be as truthful as possible without causing needless harm to yourself or others. In this instance just be you and it will naturally come out in conversation.

By the way there are other spiritual paradigms than Christianity vs. Atheism.

I suggest you take a bit of the truth from wherever you can find it and leave the rest. I'm convinced many turn away from the concept of a higher power because the religion of their culture creates a false dichotomy.

Do you feel you should? I mean, do they expect you to believe in Jesus, too? If they do and you have to pretend, try to explain why you're an atheist and hope they'll respect your decision. Be honest. If they don't, what's the point of telling them? Chill. If they don't tell you what to do, you shouldn't try to convince them that their belief is wrong. Anyway, don't make a big deal out of it and don't tell them the news out of the blue, it will only start a fight (Trust me, I'm an atheist, too). Bring up the topic now and then, express your views by questioning theirs (rationally and with arguments) and they'll eventually get used to the idea.

it's best to be honest about things like this the sooner they know the better it will be it will just make it worse if u hide it from them and they end up hearing it from someone else. Just explain to them that while you respect their beliefs you can not follow them because you believe there is no god and following something you dont believ would be being untrue to yourself.

Well, there's a few things to consider:

Do you live with them?

If so, do you need to live with them much longer?

Are you just going to explode if you don't tell them?

Make your life as easy on yourself as it can be. Are you going to gain more pleasure, or pain by telling them, do you think? If the answer is pain, then why do it?

It should be ok to tell them. If they are real Christians they will pray for you but love you no matter what you believe. But I am sure that they will be hurt. I know I would.

What for? You will only make your life more complicated. Believe whatever you want and don't worry about the rest.
PS: They'll probably try to perform an exorcism on you anyway.

What is the point?
Is it to make you feel better, not for their sake? Then no.
Are they bugging the crap out of you with their Jesus B.S.? Then yes.

I'm a Christian and I think you should tell them how you feel. Honesty is always the best way.
I think you find they'll be a little more tolerant than you think!

Good Luck!

Sure why not? But i don't beleive they will agree without an argument that may lead the family to be divided if no one understands.
