I can't understand this contradiction which I found while reading the Bible.
Mark 15:22 "and it was the third hour, and they crucified him."
John 19:14-15 "And about the sixth hour:and he saith unto the Jews, Behold your King ! But they cried out ... crucify him!"
So was Lord Jesus crucified about the third or the sixth hour???

Sundials are not very accurate. No one had a watch.

"It was nine o'clock in the morning": literally , "the third hour," thus between 9 a.m. and 12 noon. Mark's chronological sequence, which may reflect liturgical or catechetical considerations rather than the precise historical sequence of events; contrast the different chronologies in the other gospels, especially John 19:14.

You know, I really don't have any idea how time was marked for them back then. If someone forced me to choose between the two, I would probably go with Mark's account (and timing) since the Gospel According to John is highly theological and meant more as a teaching tool than a history. But I honestly don't know for sure.

The question you need to ask is when where the Gospels written?

The fact that the oral history was later written in several languages probably had a big reason for the lack of continuity...not to mention that when the stories were passed from person to person via spoken word, a lot of details probably got lost in translation.

GOOD QUESTION:
I can't really say; all I can say ask God for the answer.(James 1:5)
Because I really don't know. If I had to assume; I would say in the morning at (third hour)9 A.M. because we have to take the majority of verses between the minority. Also note: Mark says precisely "it was the third hour" to contrast to John "about the sixth hour"; so in my opinion John was unsure of what time it was. But it could be between 9 A.M. to 12 P.M. like Robert L says; but the answer is very puzzling to me because that would be in the afternoon time. You have to take the whole Bible in context of the issue at hand; that's why it's difficult to say. I would go with my original answer til I know otherwise; the majority of verses. [The sequence of events]
{Matt.27:32; Mark 15:21; Luke 23:26 = Cyrenian}
{Matt.27:34,37-39; Mark 15:26-27,29,36; Luke 23:32-33,36,38-39; John 19:19-20,29}
Matt.27:45; Mark 15:33; Luke 23:44 tells us from the sixth hour to the ninth hour was darkness.

***JESUS DIED WEDNESDAY APRIL 14, 31AD (3. P.M.)

A good foundation (1Tim.6:19) has solid ground evidence. The foundation should include 2Tim.3:16; Isaiah 28:9-10; 2Peter 1:19-21; 1Thess.5:20-21 & Ephes.5:9-10,13. To understand deeply--you must use these websites:

If you read Daniel 9:27; it says "he died in the middle of the week"; that would be Wednesday. This is followed by "3 days & 3 nights" = Matthew 12:40 which equals 1-24hr.day x 3days equals 72hrs. in grave. Next the Bible tells us it would be "after 3days and "not before = Matt.27:63-64 and Mark 8:31. It tells us in three days (John 2:19-21) and not after. The Bible also reminds us a day is 12hrs. not including the night(John 11:9-10). Remember also Gen.1:5 and Lev.23:32 tells us "evening to evening" is considered to be a day.

Now I know this is true because the MAJORITY(Matt.7:13) is always wrong. Also there's many clues that it wasn't a Friday crucifixion and a Sunday resurrection; look at 2Tim.2:18. But you will point out Mark 16:9 which says "Now when Jesus was risen[the perfect tense is correct here--he was already risen] early the first day of the week, he appeared first to Mary Magdalene." Now the original Greek didn't have no punctuation. If the King James translators put a comma after the word "risen" and not after "week", this would make complete sense. The Centenary Translation renders it this way: "Now after his resurrection, early on the first day of the week he appeared first to Mary Magdalene."

To the ancients, time was not reckoned as closely as we do today. To them, the third or sixth hour was close enough.
