I have Windows Media Player 9.0. It won't play DVDs, and says something about the decoder. From the research I've done, I've discovered that many people have had the decoder turned off by default. So how do I turn it on? Can anything else be causing this problem? If I need a new decoder, where can I download one for free?

you need third party software to play DVDs
like Power DVD Win DVD if you have burning software like Nero and Roxio they come with the software and the codec which will allow you to play Dvds through wmp
or download dvd codec buddles

first of all you shouldnt be using version 9.0....version 10.0 has been out for quiet a while now and you should go to this link to download it and it will solve this problem. ...http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/download/download.aspx

or simply go to help--check for player updates--and install the latest version

if you get the free ace codec pack or the k-lite codec pack and play with media player classic ,you will get a better quality picture full screen

try downloading it from limewire... website are no good. try searching for DVD decoder on limewire.
