I want to join the army but I need to divorce my husband first, (he has a mistress he cant seem to live without) Will the army let me join if I file the papers before I enlist? We have a 5 year old son who would have a place with his sister while I am in the army. HELP, I havent gotten up the courage to ask this of my recruiter it is kinda embaressing to admit to someone in person that my husband has/had a mistress.

I just got out of the Army after 20 years so I do know a little something about this.
The Army will not let you join if you are a single parent with custody of a child, if you appoint a guardian who will raise the child then you can join but you will not be authorized to have your child living with you, now if you were to join the Army, get threw basic and AIT....... THEN file for a divorce you will be authorized all the things that a "family" is such as housing, separate rations (food money because you will not be eating in the dining facility) and so on.
You will have to have a family care plan tho, a short term plan that would have someone that can take care of your son any where from a few days to a few weeks if you have to go to the field or something, and a long term plan where someone will take care of him for let's a year, if you were to get deployed somewhere.
good luck

This doesn't need to be brought up, only that you're getting a divorce. It shouldn't effect your getting into the military.
