Hi! I'm 13 and I'm overweight. This is my weekday routine:

First I would have to walk a block to get to my bus stop. Then I walk a few paces to get to my school's entrance. Then I go up the stairs and get to my homeroom. After my free period(I spend math and free period in one classroom), I go down the stairs and walk a long hallway to get to my gym locker. I change my clothes walk down that hall again and get to my designated gym. Well duh, u exercise in gym class. I do push-ups, curl-ups and run quarter of a mile(all of these happen almost everyday). After I finish gym class, I need to go down the same hall again and change. After I change I go down the good old long hallway and go up the same stairs and to my scince class. After science, I go down a few yards to my social studies class, after social studies, I go down a very long stairwell to the lunch room. After I eat I go up to the third floor from the ground floor to get to my health class.

This *is* exercise, but I would suggest you start jogging and walking for 2+ miles a day. The real key to losing weight is keeping your heart rate high. As a 13-year-old, you'll want to keep it above 150. However much effort it takes, you should have a heart rate above 150 beats per minute (though not higher than 160 or 165). If that means you jog, jog. If you can get that walking fast, then walk fast. But remember that it is your heart that regulates cardio workouts and fat burning.

Ask if you can talk to your gym coach about formalizing a workout routine. She or he should be glad to help, but if they aren't, talk to a gym about joining for a reduced rate, or with your parents / friends.

Sounds like you do a lot of walking.

Excercising in gym class is good (obviously) but consider this:

Everything you have described here is relatively low impact excercise. What I mean is, if you really want to start burning fat, get your heart rate up by running, not jogging, running hard for a minimum of 5 minutes, then do you pushups etc.

After that run hard for another min 5 minutes... you have to get your heartrate up to burn fat effectively.

Hmmm... Since it boosts your heart rate it's no doubt a work-out but i suggest something more like jogging or skipping and maybe later, a good weight-lifting work-out plan...
