I always have tons of processes running on my computer. Is this normal and can I end a process with out hurting something?

Instead of closing things in the task manager, run the msconfig utility. Go to Start, then Run and type in: msconfig
Go to the startup tab
You will see a list of all the programs that are loaded when your computer starts up. Uncheck any that you do not have to have. (Usually you can uncheck them all). If you decide you to need one, you can go back and recheck it.
Reboot the PC and those programs will no longer load. If you just stop them in task manager, you have to do it each time you reboot the PC.

Instead of ending them, don't have them start at all. Go to Start>Run and type in msconfig then click on the start up tab all of the programs listed start each time you boot up. Don't uncheck them all just uncheck programs you do not use all the time. Things like printers, digital cameras, scanners, load up programs in the background just waiting to be useful... don't need them they load when you use the device.
