if its a matter of negligence of self care then certainly you can go to your local city gov't and go to the probate office and speak with them to file a petition for failure of self care and the authorities will investigate and if needed have a judge make a motion for a more structured environment to assist her in this-thereby forcing the change and implementation needed to stabilizwe her. I speak from experience because painful though it was I had to do this with my own mother. It was the best for her and I am glad to say she is now stable, continually taking her medicine(which I might add that it is NOT at ALL uncommon for individuals with psych problems to believe they are "better and stop taking their meds"so although this may be difficult, knowing you are doing it because you care can mean the differernce. good luck luv

You might have to resort to probate court to get your sister into a medical facility for treatment. It's a hard way to go but how long can she survive walking the streets? She might be picked up by just about anyone. Her doctor needs to be informed of her behavior, but doubt that will be of much help. The probate court depends on your local and/or state laws. Talk to a lawyer first. Best wishes and take care.

If she is to the point of potentially harming herself or others, her guardian or next of kin has the responsibility of having her committed to a mental institution where she will be forced to take her meds. If she's not this crazy, then it is essentially up to her. Maybe you can tell her how much you care about her and that if she takes her meds regularly she won't have the problems she has now.

Definitely find a way to have her admitted to a psychiatric in-patient unit. She can be admitted on an emergency, non-voluntary basis if she is a danger to herself or others. Go to the doctor with her and speak to him or her yourself about her symptoms and non-compliance with her medication regimen. You may find it very useful to find a support group specific to her condition for YOU to attend to get information about what families can do to help her manage her condition better.

Sadly, she needs to want help herself. If she acts up & is dangerous to herself or others, you can call the police, have her taken in for a 72 hour evaluation hold. Then pray the doctors want to keep her longer.

The only way that she can be forced into treatment is by court order. Otherwise, she has to make the decision to get help. I'm sorry. I know that you must really care about her, but until she desides to care about herself, all you can do is love her.

it is up to her. tell her that you will be there for her but if she doesent fight with it you can do nothing !!!! you may try it with well or the hard way !!!! she have to accept that she have a problem and she have to cure it. and her meds give it to her without her knowlege. put them into her cofee or something like dust in it and mix them with the dring. they might get a bit of their intensity but better something then nothing isnt that right?? good luck!!!

Schizophrenia? A lot of people with it end up in and out of the psyche wards for the rest of their lives unfortunately. Just do the best you can, and realize that you can't force her.
