Why do you beleive in god, an idol, a higher being? As you may have guessed I'm not a beleiver. I beleive and rely on one person.....myself. Why do people need false idols to be able to live their lives? The only thing to truely come from religion is war.

The idea of a God was created by the educated to control the uneducated masses of years gone by, the idea was to scare them into behaving and to get them to think that wrong doing would be punished with a life after death in Hell. Following the rules of a God would get you sent to heaven.
Many people have preyed on the weakness of others by starting religions, some people need a faith to cling to, the hope of a better life, look at the religious sects that rip their followers off of all their cash.
I like you just believe in myself and hopefully live to moral standards that i find acceptable and hope others around me find acceptable too.
You get one go at life on this earth,, make it a good one !!

I believe because I have had experiences where I have felt the presence of God and his Holy Spirit, and there have been times in my life where God has answered my prayers. There have also been times when I have felt guided by God towards a certain direction in my life.
I also believe that the Bible on the whole, especially the New Testament , makes a lot of sense. I believe it is the inspired word of God, but I do not think everything was meant to be taken literally.
I also believe when I look at the wonders of creation, and I know that this world must have been created by a great designer - the God of Creation.
I hope this helps because it comes from my heart, and God Bless you:>)

Your right when you say religion is war, that's because religion is man made something that a lot will not admit, but it's a fact.
Man wrote the bible, in good faith it may have been, but he got a lot wrong, Fact.
People blame God when things go wrong, such as death, illness, wars, people staving, but ask yourself this God gave us free will so why then should he step in and stop all this when it's down to us, we made all the problems of the world, not God, unless you blame him for creation it's self.
So even if you don't believe please don't blame God,
Why do i believe in him, because he is everywhere i look, everywhere i go. I have seen the afterlife, and I can understand people who do not believe, but you miss so much beauty. God is not a man, he is not a being, he is everything.
the spirit world which is his kingdom is a place of peace, where there are no killings, no sickness, no one staving. When we learn to understand what God really expects from us then and only then will this place start to become as it should be, but man has been to busy using the name of God to do evil, they use holy books to control man, and to make profit not for God but for man.
I believe there are two very important things in live, one have faith in yourself, and have faith in God.

Love & Peace

I dispute your assertion that 'the only thing to 'truly' come from religion is war'. I'm sure that you would revise that after a moment's thought. You ask 'why do people need false idols to be able to live their lives?' To a person with faith in God, He is not a false idol, He is not created to allow them to live their life, in fact to the contrary He created us.
So, you don't believe in God. If you genuinely want to understand why some people do it would be better if you showed some respect for their beliefs and did not load your question in such a prejudicial way.

An idol is a thing that is created by God but is worshipped over Him by man, God is not the idol. Religion doesn't make wars but it's the foolish men that try to make theirs the most widely believed instead of accepting the fact that they dont have to be the only one

How can we truly question what other's are?

It is unfair to use the term 'false', when describing idols for instance. By doing that we are making a judgement and enforcing our own beliefs and opinions on others.

People develop ways of making themselves strong, to enable them to make choices, probably in much the same way that you do.

Living as such, is done on a more subconscious level.

We cannot criticise or undermine others in making comments such as you have just done.

So, you are your own god? Nothing higher than you? How small your universe is. Do you have the wisdom to choose your own path? Are you so morally perfect? Are you the highest arbiter of justice? Can you heal the sick? Bring the dead back to life? Do you know the future? If you are your own god, what hope is there for you to worship something so weak, powerless and fallible (as we all are).

i agree with religion creates war. as for god, the creator of everything , we are all made up from atoms formed in stars, stars created by the universe , so is the universe god , and us the universe made aware, as for why people need a god , who wants to believe that death is the end .

I went to a Bible study a friend started having 20 years ago. I wasn't religious back then. There were three specific situations going on in my family that worried me. None of the people at this study except my friend knew me and she didn't know of the family problems. At the end of the study everyone stood up in a circle and two of the men were in the middle of the circle. They were annointing people with oil and praying for them if they asked for prayer. I had never been in anything like this and was uncomfortable and I tend to be shy anyway, so I didn't ask for prayer. One of the men was walking around the inside of the circle. He passed me, stopped, came back, laid his hand on my head and prayed specifically for my three problems. I thought this man must have a hotline to God! That certainly got my attention and I continued going to the Bible study. I eventually accepted Jesus as my savior and when I did I was suddenly delivered from alcoholism. I'd been going to AA for three years and couldn't get sober. Suddenly the desire to drink was gone and has never returned. Through these last 20 years I've seen God perform healings and answer prayers in my life and in others. He's given me words of knowledge (the thing that happened with the man who prayed for me). He shows himself to me in many, many ways. That's how I know he's real. For me it's not just reading words on a page and trying real hard to be good. I have a living God in my life who communicates with me and helps me. I can't answer for anyone elses experiences, but those are mine. I personally would be nuts to think he isn't real. (-:
