Love them try to understand it is a illness that makes them this way. Encourage them to get help and not t self medicate. Sometimes you got to vent to someone wend because you will put up with a lot. When they are meds things will be better. Make sure they are diagnose with the right type and meds may have to be changed, don't give up. You might need therapy with a group, see if there are any available in your area. God bless you.

How involved are you in this person's life? Are you blood kin? If it is nothing more than boyfriend, you may want to reconsider pursuing this relationship, as you are looking at a lifetime of asking this same question.

If you are actually related to this person, you yourself need to get a counsellor/therapist who can teach you all the strategies. You will have to try some or all of them, and frequently.

This disorder, while quite disruptive of social and personal connections, usually does not interfere with the intellect, and quite often they are unusually bright individuals.

Best wishes on this most difficult endeavor.
