i bought a sears 13 inch tv with videocassette recorder acouple of yrs.ago-recently when i put a tape in to play it will sometime play and then when i eject the tape itself comes out of the spool-also tape is mangled-should i consider getting it repaired or would it be just wise enough to get another tv with video and dvd?

The VCR part of this combined TV/VCR is broken. It would probably be cheapest to buy a new VCR and hook it up, assuming you have the physical space for that. Otherwise, a DVD player is the way to go these days, at least for playback. There are DVD recorders out there but they are somewhat fussier than VCRs when it comes to recording. A DVD recorder is also more expensive than a VCR.

REPAIRING IT WOULDN'T BE COST EFFECTIVE. A COMBO TV/VCR/DVD PLAYER IS A GREAT SPACE SAVER, NOT TO MENTION EASY TO SET-UP.
YOU OBVIOUSLY KNOW THE SHORT COMINGS ON BUYING AN ALL IN ONE UNIT, IF ONE PART BREAKS...

sounds like either you have a dirty mode switch giving false info to the microprocessor and causing it to eject or it has a mechanical problem and is jamming and then ejecting by default
