my friend said that was what her gym teacher said. i, however, can only run a mile in like 9.5 or 10 minutes! am i out of shape?

Actually, you honestly don't have too, but by the national standards, you must run at least an 8 minute mile to be classified as "fit." I know tons of fit kids who can't run a 10 minute mile, but they can play other sports extremely well. There really is no universal definition of "fit," just a personal definition.

What you see as fit is up to you.

I think gym teachers just say that to get the kids motivated. 9-10 is pretty good. I think when I was in PE, that was a little above average for the girls in my class.

My dad told me that when I was a kid; I told him that was impossible for me and my best mile times were anywhere around 12 or 13 min.

That's BS. It depends upon the person's body type and level of training.

not u arn't. ur in shape! i am 2, and thats my normal time. thats the "normal" time. [what my coach said] Every coach or p.e. teacher is different. Usually it depends which state you are located in.
