It takes 9 weeks from insemination to the dog has puppies. Of course, this can vary by a day or two, either way.

9 weeks. 59-63 days. When you get to about the 55th day, take the temp rectally. This will give you a base line to go by. It should be around 102. Check it 2-3 times per day after that. As soon as the temp drops to around 96-99 (even if it goes back up afterwards) you can plan on labor starting within 12hours so go ahead and get your whelping box ready, a heating pad, and cancel any plans you have. Make sure you have your vet's number on standby. If you have any other questions, e-mail me and I will give you a list of things to have on hand and the name of a book that I have found to be very helpful.

Depends on the breed. I have a chihuahua and most breeders recommends 56 - 63days for most dogs. Start the first day that the dogs have mated as day one and count from there, thats what i did. Majority of them concluded 63rd day for chihuahuas to go into labor. But mines went into labor on her 59th day. The vet might have a better timeline for you, you can ask the vet... also you can get an ultrasound to see an estimate of how many pups you'll be getting. Good luck!
