Okay by saying there is no God(a being of infinate knowledge), you are saying that you have infinate knowledge of the nonexistance of a being of infinate knowledge(God)...

Okay don't get all confused...just think about it.

(sorry if I spelled anything wrong)

ok back to the proof thing...I'll explain it the way my mom did when I was little...If you throw a model car onto your floor and sit there and watch it, will it come together and form a car...no...you have to build it yourself or it will just be a pile of parts...
so if your model car doesn't "come together" without something or someone building it, what makes you think that the Earth and/or the Universe came together without a someone or something building it?

No they're not.

They're saying they don't believe in God. Metaphysical questions are unanswerable for humans in this life.

People who say there is no God are making a statement purely saying what they say. The fact remains that they have not thought about it enough to realize that they aren't in the position to pass comment.

We don't even understand the nature of our own material Cosmos which obviously means we can't make a scientific conclusion about the existence of a spiritual state of reality and certainly can't say that there definitely is or is not a God.

I do believe in God and see no reason to argue about it unless somebody just has to start telling me that God doesn't exist.

Blessed is he who has not seen and yet believes.

Not at all. I am making no such claim.

Let's assume you do not believe in unicorns (99.9% of people don't). You do not have absolute knowledge of every nook and cranny of the universe to say that unicorns absolutely don't exist. Rather, you simply say that due to the lack of evidence for unicorns, you decline to believe in them.

That is all I am doing with God.

Simply defining God as having infinite knowledge does not make this any less logical. Suppose I believe in a unicorn with infinite knowledge....would you then be saying that you have infinite knowledge of the nonexistence of my unicorn?

Of course not. And I do not make that claim about your God. Your God, to me, gets treated like you treat unicorns, Allah, Zeus and any other mythical idea.

Edit to answer your extenstion:

Ahh, the argument from design. Evolution is adaquate to explain life and humans. Don't disbelieve this just because some folks say that's not true. Read up on it and study it for yourself. It's true.

The universe, and evolution, all work off of very basic and simple and elegant formulae. It's all math. The math required to make your model car come together is extremely complicated, so are the physics. That is why the model doesn't come together.

While still trying to be understood, the math for the universe is quite simple. Think e=mc(squared). Add the simply formula for gravity found by Newton, and you have a star. Those very simple equations makes the stars burn. That's it! That's all it takes. Much easier than a model plane.

So are the chemical reactions that allow two people to make a baby by combining genes. They are just following the laws of physics, though sometimes there are errors and we have mutations and evolution. But again, very simple rules most people learn in Chemistry 101.

Now, you may ask who wrote those laws, which is a valid question. But there are answers and theories as to why these few simple laws work well. Read up on them (I suggest "The Universe in a Nutshell" by Stephen Hawking). Secondly, if all God is is a lawmaker how knows a bit of math, what does that have to do with Jesus or anyother specific God.

Proof or belief in the "watchmaker" God doesn't supply any proof for any other specific God, such as Jesus.

No, only someone who belives would need infinte knowledge to disbelive. Since a nonbeliver does not accept the infinite description of a god, he needs nothing at all, to disbelive. By all accounts, people who say there is no god, do belive in gods. As a definition. Any number of divine explanations for things people do not understand, but have a need to explain. The god I hear talked of most times, does not sound like something I would consider infinite at all. Cannot get rid of evil, has to threaten to get his way, things like that. Sounds like some alien having fun controlling a primative population of a backwater planet.

Or a sullen child training his puppy with threats.

I think you are confused. Most are saying that there is no compelling reason to believe in god... and NOBODY says that they have some kind of 'infinite knowledge' that god does not exist. There is a difference, you know.

Atheism can be considered to be a belief in the same way that not collecting stamps can be considered to be a hobby.

Consider the following sentence:

I do believe that god does exist.

That sentence can be negated in two ways:

1. I DO NOT believe that god does exist.

2. I believe that god DOES NOT exist.

The first sentence expresses the WEAK atheist position, also known as the agnostic-atheist position. The second sentence represents the STRONG atheist position.

The weak atheist position is characterized by an ABSENSE of belief, brought about by the lack of evidence that would be necessary to bring about or sustain 'belief'. In this sense, the absence of belief in god is equivalent to an absence of belief in Santa Claus, the Easter Bunny, the Tooth Fairy, the Bogeyman and Thor. The weak atheist (agnostic) position bears no burden of proof, since it is not asserting anything to be 'true'.

The STRONG atheist position is arrived at by a CERTAINTY that god DOES NOT exist, and implies that compelling evidence exists to support such a certainty. That being the case, it would seem that the strong atheist position DOES bear a burden of proof, since it is asserting that 'no god' is a 'true' proposition... but in a practical sense, all that it REALLY means is that the person holding this position finds that the preponderance of evidence leads to the reasoned conclusion that god does NOT exist.

Just because someone does not believe that their is no being that possesses infinate knowledge does not mean that we believe that WE possess infinate knowledge. Agnostics (such as myself) believe that are minds could no possibly understand such a being, even if it/he/she did exist.

Actually, non-believers could say the same thing to you. Believers seem to think that they know the "absolute truth" and that they know that this God who has infinate knowledge exists, but how would they know that? Do believers have infinate knowledge in order to understand and know such a deity? Impossible.

Nice try, but incorrect. I know that many things do not exist, simply because they are logically impossible to exist, and I can know this without knowing a complete inventory of all the things that do exist. I know there is not a second Sun in our solar system (don't you?). I know there is no 5,000 mile-wide ball of cream cheese at the center of the Earth (don't you?).

Add to that the fact that no major religion defines God in the way that you do, simply as some form of infinite knowledge, and your proposition falls apart completely, despite any amount of further thinking about it.

I hope you have the excuse of being stoned when you thought up this question.

This is a fallacy. First, most atheists will not say that they know for 100% that there is no God, which is the ONLY way your logic makes any sense. They say they believe there is no God. That they have examined the evidence and that they believe it is more logical to believe that God does not exist than to believe that He does.

The statement "There is no God," is a statement of one's beliefs, not an absolute assertion. The statement, "There is a God," is also only a statement of belief. In order to know that a being of infinite knowledge exists, you also would have to be a being of infinite knowledge.

Before asking them to think about it (most atheists have), we need to think about it. By making statements that are just not true as "proofs" for God, you actually just give them more reason to believe there is no God.

****Edit****

In reference to your "model car" theory...

You really need to stop before you start converting Christians to atheism. That is a fine explanation for a young child, but not for intellectuals who have studied both creationism and evolution (and Big Bang theory). I believe in creationism, but I would never insult those who don't by simplifying the theory of evolution. The theory of evolution IS a logical theory, I just happen to believe that creation is MORE logical. Christians spend way too much time insulting the beliefs of atheists and making fun of them, and not enough learning why they should believe in the Bible.

I honestly do not care if God exists or not.

If God came to you and told you to go outside today and shoot 100 random strangers, would you do it?

In other words, does your morality depend only on the whims of God, or does it rely on something more fundamental?

I believe that morality is more fundamental than any God. God is defined as good or evil by morality. Morality is not defined as correct or incorrect by God.

Whether or not God comes to you and tells you to kill 100 random strangers today, doing so would still be completely immoral.

I'm very proud of my bumper sticker: "Militant Agnostic: I Don't Know and You Don't Either".

So, I will freely admit that I'm not sure if there is a god or not. Why don't you do the same? You'll feel much better.

Why in the world does this bother you? Take what you believe and live a good life. We each must be responsible for our own choices in life. You've made yours.....move on.
