Good question... it all depends on whether you want to spend money or get a free anti-virus. In the past the best overall anti-virus (paid) has been Norton Anti-virus. This year, reviews give the edge to McAfee VirusScan 2006 over the other industry leader, Norton Anti-Virus. Experts say McAfee has a more robust spyware scanner, which detects spyware and adware before it is downloaded to your computer. Virus definitions are updated daily for real-time scanning of incoming and outgoing e-mail, instant-messaging traffic and attachments. McAfee especially watches for suspicious e-mail activity, such as too many e-mails sent at once. Although reviews say McAfee beats the current crop of anti-virus software, testers complain that McAfee's interface is cluttered with promotions for other McAfee products. Deep system scans are accurate but slow, so it's best to schedule full scans during idle computer time. Note that if you use America Online, you can download McAfee VirusScan for free from AOL.
The best free anti-virus this year is According to reviews, free downloaded anti-virus software is now sophisticated enough to keep your computer safe, albeit without the extra features and customization options on pricier software. avast! 4 Home Edition includes removal of infected embedded files and e-mail scanning along with automatic updates. However, you can't establish a schedule for your systems scans and must perform them at manually. There's no spyware scanner, and technical help is limited to a knowledge base.
AVG (made by grisoft) is another great free anti-virus software.
Hope this helps to answer you question,
Hafiz

I would say avast. Avast is free and uses a ton less memory then McAfee and Norton. Avast was rated great for being a free antivirus program in Consumer Reports. It was an easy install. Also, it allows you to montior certain items, so you can turn off many features if you do not use them. I still use it now and it is the best I have seen.

DO NOT get McAfee unless you have Comcast, because then it's free. But do not pay for that crap. You cannot turn it off. Sure, you can right-click on it and tell it to turn off, but it still runs in the background and eats memory. It can screw up installations and make your games run slow. If you get smart and go into Processes to specifically find the stealthy little bastard and terminate it, it can tell that it's been discovered and terminated and will come right back in full mode.
Get Norton. It's good and the deluxe version has a lot of bells and whistles that are fun to tweak and play with (to me, anyway).

i'm no professional yet i think of Mcafee is the extra advantageous purchase. there are a number of things to contemplate first. while you're in basic terms procuring an anti virus, mcafee is probable the extra advantageous one through fact i've got examine from laptop international that zone alarm makes use of an previous virus engine. yet on the different hand, while you're going for the full computing gadget (virus secure practices, firewall, phishing, and so on) you're extra advantageous off with zonealarm.
