If the store has a clearly stated policy on restocking fees, all you can do is ask politely for an exception. Don't make an *** of yourself by hollering and arguing. You should have the receipt and the camera and its box and materials should be in perfect condition. I don't suppose it's unopened, but if so that would make your case easier to argue. If you're missing the box or other materials (manual, warranty cards etc.), you can still try it, but don't be shocked if you get a polite refusal. You shouldn't expect the store to take a loss (which is what you're really asking if pieces are missing) for your sake.

Above all, be civil. We all owe that to each other, even to store employees.

Do you mean, "without being charged a re-stock fee"? First, I'd recommend that you have your receipt with you, and that hopefully you didn't buy it too long ago -- it just looks cheesy, like you're trying to rent the camera free of charge. Second, ask to speak to a manager. Hopefully you're a regular customer at wherever you bought it -- the manager will have to measure sticking to the letter of company policy against pissing off a customer for the rest of their life....Most major chain stores (Sears, Circuit City, Best Buy) won't charge a restock fee. I suppose you could also tell them that the camera is defective in some way -- the store mails the camera back to the manager and they get a new one to restock it with, you get your money back, everybody wins -- but again, I would only try this if you bought the camera VERY recently (i.e.; within the last 30 days).
