Sounds like it could be a kidney problem. Any problems urinating etc? Whatever it is, drink plenty of water (never hurts and usually does much good). I had a kidney infection during pregnancy, and it really freaking hurt. I couldn't sleep, couldn't sit still. I finally found one really stupid sitting position that would keep it from hurting. But the doctor made it all better when he gave me Tylenol w/ codeine...

This is the approximate level of the flexure of the colon.. if there is any ptosis of the transverse colon, there will be an accumulation of gas at that level.. Any expansion of the colon becomes painful. Should this be your problem, you can get relief by taking the heel of the hand and pushing inward (centrally) from each side alternately. Or, get into the knee chest position for 10 minutes or so.

Could be a liver spasm, if you've been running or exercising heavily and did not drink enough water prior to your activity ... it can cause your liver to go into spasm. Ever notice runners holding their left side? If you hydrate yourself the pain should go away.

It definitely is NOT appendicitus. That pain would be on your right side, so you can stop freaking out about that. It could be a cyst. Make a Dr.'s appointment. If they can't determine what it is right away, you'll probably need at CT-scan.
