I've heard a few stories about guys in the military stopping in Korea to get their rocks off before heading off to war. How true is this, and does it happen often? Does the military do this consciously? I had a friend tell me about the korean girls and he had a gf at the time, I told him it was wrong to cheat but he didn't consider it cheating. Insight please.

About as true as "what goes on in the field stays in the field."
Some people in the military will do something indecent no matter WHERE they are. I have a friend who's divorcing her Army husband (who is one of my mom's best friends' son) because he had an affair on her while he was on emergency leave. Their daughter was in the hospital. What a jerk, right?
My husband, however, who is also US Army, wouldn't consider having an affair, no matter where he is, or how long we're apart. He knows I'd kill him, lol. Slowly.
There are plenty of guys who wouldn't do what you describe. Besides, most don't even stop off in Korea first.
Although, I did hear about one guy who was stationed in Korea for a hardship tour. His wife divorced him, because during that year, he contracted an STD. Talk about KARMA.

the military is not going to send you to korea or anywhere just so the troops can get their rocks off. Its a false tale. They do hold a huge military exercise called Team Spirit where they bring hundreds of troops in for a week or two week long training. It's possible that they were allowed some extra time and spent it down town.

however, I spent a year in korea back in 82-83. 1/2 the time in Kunsan and the other half in KwangJu.

So.... what have you heard about the korean women? Let me know and I'll tell you if its true.

If you want a real treat, ask someone who has ever been stationed in the Phillipines. I've heard stories that make korea look like a daycare center.

Finally, Yes, it is cheating! Just because shes in another country and you'll never meet her on the street doesnt mean it's not cheating.

Maybe you should take a trip to europe or canada and have some fun. Afterall, according to your friend, its not cheating.

The military does not condone prostitution. Period. Adultery is punished under the UCMJ - and it's not a pretty sight. Even getting an STD can get you hammered. All sexual contact between servicemembers and anyone else in theater during wartime is verboten. This isn't to say it doesn't happen; it's that the establishment does not condone it, does not support it, and does not procure prostitutes for the troops.

And I have never heard of the ROK being any sort of pit stop for troops en route to Afghanistan or Iraq. You may just be hearing embellished tales.

It's called morality of the individual. At no time does that Army tell anyone to go and do stuff like that. I have seen people do it and get in trouble. I have seen people do it and others look the other way. They are grown men making their own choices. You don't 'stop in Korea to get your rocks off', you stop in Korea because it's a stop that must be taken. If your hubby or someone gets his rocks off then it says a lot about that person if he already has a g/f or wife.

As English is the second language for me I didn't get the meaning
"get their rocks off before heading off to war".
Looking over other's answers, it might be about sex issues
in Korea. Yes, there might be prostitutes in Korea.
But keep in mind prostitutes are anywhere in the world.
What's the problem?

Very true. Until you get back home and start getting drunk at a party, and the talking starts, and before you know it, what stays in Korea ain't stayin' in Korea after that. Just don't get drunk and start bragging about what you did there, especially around the wrong people.

It happens a lot because there are so many prostitutes. I've seen many marriages break up over there. Watch out for VD, it is rampant.
