Yes... why?

Well... why should Spanish or French or German be the national language?

.....Uh.. because 90% of the country speaks English...

It would be stupid to make Spanish a national language... Only 15% know Spanish fluently...

French would be around 5%

And German below 5%...

Think about it....

YES, it should be the chosen language. I don't care of were not older than some other countries. We need a common language and english should be it. It is what is used in our schools for teaching. It is the ballot when we vote. We should have only one language for common use. The ones that dont speak english should learn. Sometimes, people claim they don't know english and they really do. This is so they can i believe get special treatment.

Well, if English is named the USA's official language, will that spur people like you to learn the correct rules of capitalization and punctuation?

[Note: America = all of North and South America. "America's" is the correct possessive; "Americas" is the plural.]

I think it's fine for English to be named the USA's official language, as long as you don't denigrate the many other languages spoken here at the same time. I'm not sure how you would go about doing this. After all, the US is a "melting pot" of many cultures and people - ignoring all those other languages would go against this basic founding principle, no?

English needs to be the legal language of this country. In most places they print the ballot in many laguages. Now the debate and the newspapers that we use to decide what candidate to vote for are in English so this person using this foreign language ballot has no idea what they are voting for so I guess they just pick one.

Another way to get my brother in law a contract for millions to print these ballots is what the pols are thinking I guess, who cares if they dont know what they are voting for. I am sure they will vote for me because I put out ads in their language telling them I love them and will continue to try and get them money from the government and hire them at my business.

I didn't realise you lot didn't have an official language. However it seems you have adopted English which seems appropriate as it is the international language of business.

But don't forget that you speak and write in American English which is slightly different from its older brother.

I do. This would solve alot of problems. IE now, to get a job in California, they want you bilingual...even for crappy fast food minimum wage jobs. We are raised to believe this is an English speaking country and most people speak English. Then suddenly most people dont and are claiming there's nothing official about it. So of course, that is the solution. Make it official and a requirement.

"Although the United States currently has no official language, it is largely monolingual with English being the de facto national language. English is spoken by about 82% of the population as a native language and nearly everyone in the United States uses it as a daily language. "

This is enougth proof that English should be declared the official language of U.S.A.

Yes, because there should be one language in this country that everyone speaks so we can communicate with each other. Most countries have an official language that everyone speaks. We can have one too. It not racist like some say. You can still learn other languages, you just must know English so all US citizens can communicate
