I drive a 1980s model car and someone broke into it last night using a metal file to pry the door open. Today I've emptied out any remaining items that might tempt thieves and I'm buying a steering wheel lock. Can anyone give me some practical advice to prevent future break-ins? The doors were locked and the car was parked in a well-lighted area.

Crack heads will literally steal anything that may be worth value to them. There could be an empty pack of cigarettes on the ground that they think may be full. Some piece of trash on the floor might look like an Ipod from a certain angle... make sure your car is always clean and empty. If you have a nice stereo in it, detach the faceplate if you can. They probably aren't going to steal the car so just make sure there is nothing visible they can take.

on a old car you have a few options a very high quality car alarm
like,VIPER,COBRA,SECURA SCAN not one of those $99.95 ones or tape razor blades under your door handles so when they stick there hands under the handle they willhave a suprise.Or put you a couple of rattle snakes in there one night..I done the thing with the razor blades when I was in high school people kept stealing my spinners off my rims so i put the razor blades behind them and after school i went look and there was blood on my rims needless to say no one ever tried to steal my spinners again

If a thief wants to get in they will. Best thing you can do is move the car to a better location. Also be aware and cautious for yourself.

Python.

A big one.

Don't feed it much.

Give it a pet pit bull.

Give the pit bull a gun.

Give the python a bow and arrow. (I know a python can't use a bow and arrow, but he will feel left out if you don't.)
