You might have one or both of two problems: 1.) get old e-mail back, and 2.) accept and send new e-mail.

First, all of your old e-mail is in a big file with a *.pst extension. Go to Start -> Search -> For Files... and look for all files that contain ".pst". You'll probably get a couple called archive.pst and backup.pst among others. Check the last modified date to find the most recent of them all. Take note of its directory location.

Then from within Outlook go to: File -> Open -> Outlook Data File... Find the ".pst" that is the most recent and open it. You should be able to now get all of your old e-mail.

Now for new e-mail you need the account settings. Go to Tools -> E-mail Accounts... Select View or Change Existing E-mail Accounts. Probably there is nothing there which is expected. If there is something there, check to see that your account isn't already set up. From here forward, I'm going to assume your account is not set up already.

Go back to select New E-mail Account. Now you have to know which kind of e-mail account you are setting up. Probably it is a POP3 account so let's select that and press Next.

Now you need to enter some information:

User Information is self-exlanatory.

Logon Information you may not remember because Outlook always took care of it for you. If you don't know, you'll have to check with whoever runs your e-mail server. To find that look at your e-mail address -- me@company.com. Start by calling company and tell them you need to speak with someone regarding e-mail administration. Of course, you can try guessing first to avoid the hassles. You won't harm anything if you're wrong.

Server Information. Once again, you need to have some specific information known by an e-mail administrator -- YUK. Same as above, call company, ask for e-mail administration help, and then ask, "For my POP3 e-mail account, what's the incoming mail server name and the outgoing mail server name?" Also, there's nothing wrong with guessing before you go through the hassle of contacting the company. Try this for the incoming mail server:

mail.company.com (of course 'company' is the domain name in your e-mail address)

For outgoing, try this:

mail.company.com
-or-
smtp.company.com

Test Settings. This is the good part. Press the button and see if the results are successful. You will see all the things it is checking to confirm that your e-mail account is working. If it fails, you'll know where to look.

Sorry about your HD and good luck retrieving everything.

help ->Yahoo! Mail Premium Services -> POP Access & Forwarding and select the POP3 Email Client Settings

pop3: pop.mail.yahoo.com
smtp: smtp.mail.yahoo.com

smtp requires authentication

Are you referring to Outlook or Outlook Express? What do you mean it doesn't work: Won't it open? It repeatedly crashes. You don't know where to start...

Details. The more details, the easier it is to diagnose.

you should have included more details on what you are actually trying to do but... I'm guessing you should go to Start>>Control Panel>> Mail and set up your account...
