If it is a pirated copy, is there any crack/fix so that it functions normally?

You can download some updates from the microsoft download site using a computer with a legit copy of XP, then save them to a jump drive or email them to your other computer. Some newer updates and features will not install on the pirated copy though.

I believe Microsoft checks your computer before updates, and will not download to your computer if it's not genuine.
