what is an anchor baby?

someone on this site used it in a question and i was going to answer their question but i dont know what a anchor baby is
is it like a baby w/a birth defect or something?

An anchor baby is a child of illegal immigrants that was born in the United States. Because anyone who is born here is an automatic citizen, this baby is an "anchor" keeping the rest of the family in.

no, it's a baby someone came to have it in the US so they can stay to live there.
