Not advisable as when canoeing at sea, you are recommended to use a Sea Kayak.

The Canadian canoe is more adapted to inland waters, and remember you generally need two paddler's.

i have taken a canoe into the pacific ocean and had an excellent time doing it
here are some helpful tips
make sure you are a good swimmer
tie everything to the canoe so if you do flip it you dont loose it all
take a couple of boat bumpers (the tubes or balls that large boats use to protect the boat from smashing on docks) and attach them to the canoe so if it flips it doesn't sink (one on each end worked for me and i flipped twice)
go on a calm day with no weather coming in
dont venture out farther than you want swim (not that you would have to swim to shore to get back in the boat. i bailed mine and climbed back in without swimming for shore)
DO NOT GO ALONE (common sense)
expect to be swimming at least once and hope for not at all
take a camera
good fishing and tight lines

Wouldn't recommend it...... absolute limit I'd recommend for one of them is exploring an Estuary & quiet harbour on a calm day....... perhaps also a quiet bay just outside of it if the sea is almost absolutely flat (and only if wearing the proper safety gear), provided you keep an eye on what the weather & water are doing.

depends where you wanna go, if you whant to go inshore, like a mile off land, yes. if you wanna go like deep sea, off shore i would say use a boat.
good luck!
