No, really! for instance, the beef lobby is very powerful in Texas, and has strong armed the legislature into making it illegal to say negative things about beef, even if they're true.

Similar lobbying in California has made it a *felony* to steal a single orange.

I made the mistake of asking for the no-smoking section of a restaurant in North Carolina. We got take-out for the rest of our stay in that state!

I'm going to assume by "food slander" you mean "illegal to lie about the contents of a food" and in that case, its pretty self expanitory on why its illegal.
