No worries, people generally grow out of the High School drama of making fun of everyone who's different. All you have to do is tell her to remember Calliope, Muse of laughter. When people start saying stupid things like, "How many babies do you eat during your Black Masses?" she should just think how silly they sound. Try to ignore the Fundies as much as possible, they aren't worth knowing, so don't listen to their nonsense. If they get physical, take it to the teachers or the police. And rent a few good Bela Lugosi flicks for the particularly bad days.

Honestly, no people will not stop saying it is evil. Why? Because it is a doorway to evil. How do I know this? I was a Witch for many years, 6 1/2 years to be exact. I began in the practice of Wicca, and meandered along my path taking a little from this path, a little from that path...and making my own. Which nearing the end of my journey as a Witch, was leading to doorways that I really wanted to open. And when I opened them, what was behind the doors were extremely dark and evil. See in the beginning, the path of Witchcraft, Wicca...Paganism period...is very pretty looking. Very peaceful, very humanistic. Underlying it though, is a root of evil. That is why the Lord ahbors it, that is why He makes demands against it. Thank goodness He never left my side, and I found Him when I did; and accepted Him when I did into my heart. Before the day of my salvation, I was about to make some choices in my life that could have forever altered the course of my life in a very negative manner.

I am sorry your friend is finding discrimination. I know what that is like as well, for growing up I was rasied Jewish and I found myself in many scuffles with people at school over my religion. I know what discrimination feels like. But the fact of the matter is this, no matter how much discrimination she is encountering...it does not mean she is heading down the right path. You have a responsiblity that God has given you, and you can show her through your example of Godly love how to find a better path...the path of Jesus. The path of life.

Before I tell you anything, you need to know this first. Nothing runs in your family. The knowledge has just been passed down. You are completely human, just like the rest of your family, and don't have any strange abilities (dreams that happen are actually quite common). Any human can practice witchcraft. Anyways, you will have to learn at least the basics about witchcraft. Do not use any books or websites (unless it's a book that's been written and passed down by a family member). It's best to learn from someone with personal experience (unless it's passed down in a book, in which case it's still personal experience). When you have learned the basics (as you should know, magick is dangerous), you can start casting spells for your protection and for the protection of your family members. Do NOT attempt to cast ANY spells, even "harmless" spells, before learning the basics.

Unfortunetely no. Number one Witchcraft has been regarded as evil for centuries. Centuries worth of negative propaganda isn't going to just disappear.

But more importantly, number 2, and get this through your head now...not all Witches are Pagan or Wiccan, and not all people who call themselves Witches are good. I think it is a disservice to Witchcraft to try to portray all Witches as good little nature worshippers. It's as bad as the portrayal of us all being Satan worshippers. It's even worse because it's basically lying to people about us. There ARE Witches out there who do worship Satan. There are atheist Witches who don't believe in a law of return or Karma. There are Witches who do practice "black" magic.

I think that if Witchcraft is to be better accepted we should start being more honest about it. Wiccans and Pagans do NOT have the exclusive copyright on the word Witch or Witchcraft. It might help your friend to start calling herself Wiccan, Pagan, or at least Pagan Witch or Wiccan Witch. Witch =/= Wiccan or Pagan. In fact Witchcraft doesn't need to have anything to do with any religion or faith at all.

Thanks for asking this excellent question.
It reminds me of Monty Python and the Holy Grail:

We have found a witch. May we burn her?
A Witch! Burn her!
How do you know she is a witch?
She looks like one. Yes, she does.
Bring her forward.
I am not a witch. I am not a witch.
But you are dressed as one.
They dressed me up like this.
We didn't, we didn't!
This is not my nose, It is a false one.
Well?
... Well, we did do the nose.
The nose?
And the hat. But she is a witch.
A witch, a witch, burn her!
Did you dress her up like this?
... Um ... Yes ... no ... a bit ... yes... she has got a wart.
Why do you think she is a witch?
She turned me into a newt.
A newt? I got better.
Burn her anyway.
Quiet! Quiet!
There are ways of telling whether she is a witch....

And sorry, witches do not believe in Satan, only Christians and Satanists believe in Satan. (That's the funny part.)

To say witchcraft is evil is like saying nuclear bombs are evil, or a knife is evil, or a pen is evil.

Perhaps we should really say the human mind who uses these items in evil ways is the true evil. So stop burning your witches, but instead look into ourselves to tame the evilness within.

no people will not stop saying that....the Bible as you know since you read it states that it is evil and we should astray away from it.....now I don't care if your friend practices witchcraft or not.....but it is just as with all religions you will always find someone who doesn't like yours and wants to open their mouth and ridicule you for it...but that is part of it.....it is sad that it is that way but it is none the less....so she is just going to have to learn to stand up for what she believes whether she gets acceptance or not from others.....there is no easy way out....as you can see on this forum Christians as well as others get ridiculed daily but we cant take them seriously and must learn to let what is said role of our backs and just move forward in our lives.....

There is more than 2000 years of pent up prejudice out there…and it comes out against more than just pagan practices. The first amendment not withstanding, freedom is an ideal for which we strive, but seldom achieve.

Love the sinner and not the sin. If you think that someone is in the wrong, that doesn’t mean that we are justified in burning them at a stake. We are required to forgive people and love them regardless of their beliefs. Let God punish people for their sins.

No, I think you were pretty much stereotyped in Salem. Personally, what little I know about Wicca seems perfectly fine to me. Now, I know even less about Voodoo and Santeria and I am wary of them. Speaking of the evil eye, the Mexicans believe in that. When you compliment some one or something, than you must touch it or you have given it the evil eye. Living in Texas, I just make a point to always touch a child when I have commented on the child. You know, just in case.

Nope.

Many people are ignorant because they cannot be bothered with examining something new and different. These folks tend to be easily lead by even a marginal leader.

Others are willfully ignorant. They choose to close their hearts and minds to anything that does not fit within their narrow paradigms. These folks have a mind like a steel trap... Except that it is rusted shut. Unfortunately these are also the people that take advantage of the lazy ignorant people.

Thanks for opening your mind.

Blessed Be,
Pabs

As long as people fear it, they will think it's evil. The bible teaches that anything other than Christianity is evil, wicca expecially, with that 'Thou shalt not suffer a witch to live" thing, so as long as there is Christianity, people will think witchcraft is evil.
