I'm going to give you my own personal opinion about ADD. I'm not a doctor (yet) but I'm pretty well versed on the subject, so please listen.
ADD is not imaginary. It's not something that psychiatrists came up with to label unruly kids (but many children, are, sadly, misdiagnosed and placed on stimulants for the rest of their lives). It is, however, a very manageable condition and, IMO, should be treated first WITHOUT medication. Try not to think of it as a disease, but as a different way of thinking and functioning. Your brain simply works differently. You may never be able to change the way your brain is wired, but I think that with a lot of hard work and some time, you should be able to keep up with the demands of school and, eventually, a career.
Now, if you try to manage your symptoms without medication and it doesn't work, then by all means try it, but I think you should seriously try working with a therapist, your family and your school to manage your symptoms on your own before you try medication. I'm sure that some people need medication to manage their ADD, but I truly do not believe that everyone does, and I believe that everyone should first attempt to manage it without medication. Only if this fails should you resort to medication.
In the middle of my sophomore year of high school, I began to research ADD and thought I had it. My psychiatrist at the time put me on Adderall, and while for a few weeks I felt a little more motivated, I couldn't really sleep and my grades suffered. I still believe that I may have ADD, but I hesitate to call it that...I'd rather just say I have an ADD brain, which is true. My mind does jump from one topic to another, and I do have trouble focusing on things (especially ones that I'm not interested in), but that doesn't mean I'm incapable of controlling my habits and forcing myself to work on something even when I don't think I can.

Think ADD can be controlled by meditation and Yoga. All you need is patience.Your parents need Plenty of it.Its not your fault at all.Sometimes it comes in genes.Just learn to concentrate harder. Here meditation does help a lot.First get the help from your teachers. They must know about your problem and the way to tackle it.Make sure your parents meet the teachers and explain your situation. No harm done. Its better that they know before hand.Try to remain calm and composed. Focus on your work.Think meditation and yoga should do wonder to you. Its not necessary that you should take meditation.Consult your doctor.he will be able to judge your level of ADD.You can do it.Just have the will power and determination to overcome ADD.

if it helps u improve your concentration, and settles u down..medication wont be such a bad thing...try it, and see if it helps..if it doesnt then have your dr take you off of it..but do what ur dr tells u to do, and be honest with him on how you feel when taking the meds..and dont go on what ppl tell u in yahoo answers..this should be you, your parents, and your dr.
