Because she is an ignorant, intolerant cow, much like CreoleGirl, with her 'high morals.' High morals my butt! >:-( God, I hate homophobes!
Or maybe she isn't homophobic at all, just very wary of gay people, as she thinks them 'different' or 'unusual.' If she gets to know people who are gay, she will probably change her perception

Homophobia is a loaded term. It assumes that if someone is afraid of a homosexual- maybe they ARE one. You know, I'm afraid of dogs. Maybe I'm a german shepard.
Homophobia is an outdated term from the 70s. The correct term is sexual prejudice, and applies to heterosexuals as well.

Most people fear what they don't understand.
When she has expereinced the information in a healthy way and is able to understand it from her perspective, she won't be emotinally effected by it anymore.
Fear and Anger is no way to live.
