when they need one and can use it without gettign expensive phone bills. i'm 14 and my parents bought me a Tracfone, it works great for quick calls home for them to pick me up, ect. it's not good if you talk for long though, but i rarley call friends on it and it's always just a quick convo. i see so many kids in my grade who are constantly using their better pic phones to snap and send pics (cha-ching! that costs money!) text messaging each other, and calling and having long convos. i feel bad for their parents.

i suggest beginning with a tracfone because if you run out of minutes then you can't go over, i've also heard that verizon's Go-phone is good. then if they use all there minutes they will learn... and if needed they can start paying too!

hope this helped....

No before then 13. I actually have a seven 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous and have faith me, there is no clarification why a seven 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous desires a cellular telephone. the place precisely is a seven 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous going to be that a) you dont understand the place they are already so which you have chose the telephone to come across them b) they wont have get admission to to a landline and c) they wont have get admission to to a depended on person with a telephone contained regarding an emergency. the only reason i will think of is that in the event that they have a severe scientific difficulty, inclusive of severe diabetes or allergies, so as that they could elect to get scientific interest on a moments observe, or perhaps then they dont surely elect an rather cellular telephone, my seven 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous son has allergies and epilepsy so he desires to be waiting to touch 911 if he has an attack, so he has a "telephone" which will purely call 911, me, and my husbands cells, thats all, it doesnt do something, doesnt actually have a exhibit screen, merely 3 buttons, and hes no longer allowed to apply it exterior of an emergency, he hasnt had to apply it yet. sure, situations have replaced, yet toddlers havnt, a seven 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous could desire to be fiddling with legos and construction forts exterior, no longer texting their buddies instead of fiddling with them. We have been given a cellular telephone for my husbands 13 3 hundred and sixty 5 days previous sister, we've custody of her, because of the fact shes a young person now and has greater independence and has began merely going out together with her buddies and going around city. I didnt have a cellular till i develop into 21.

I wonder that same thing too. It would be ideal if the child can wait until he/she is an adult and can work to pay for the phone and phone bill.

Children these days could not survive without video games, cell phones, and other luxury items. It's ridiculous seeing 8 year old kids chit chatting with friends on their cell phones.

How did we all get along without cell phones? I didn't need to call anyone unless I was at home.

I'd say around 13.
That's when they start going out a lot
& might have to make an emergency call.

I think it's pretty pointless when I see like 10 year old kids with cell phones. They don't even use them.

My 10 year old has one, he uses it to call me when he gets home from school so I can give him instuctions or reminders on what needs to be done in the hour before I get home. Its also used for times that he may go play at the playground which is directly behind our house, or to call me on the weekends when he goes to stay with his dad. He knows who he can call for free and he knows that the phone is not to be used outside of those times unless its an emergency.

I believe they should have a mobile phone, when they are starting to go out with their friends.... When they are in middle school.
