Only because of the poor decision to fight and not box in the first Sugar Ray - Duran fight is this question made legitimate.

But logically you would have to look at the second fight as well as the Hearns Duran fight (taking out the punching power) or the De Jesus - Duran fight etc.
and conclude that the hand speed and lack of desire to stand their just let a man who has fists of stone hit you, would make this an easy win for Mayweather. I don't personally care for Floyd, but if you have seen any of Duran's fights against quick, descent powered boxers he has never faired well. This scenario would be not different.

With all due respect to the great Roberto Duran, if he fought Mayweather in his prime Floyd would win easily. Not to compare Duran to Diego Corrales, but heading into that fight everyone thought that Mayweather would buckle under Diego's power but it sure didn't work out that way. You can't hit what you can't catch, and Mayweather's ungodly speed and solid defensive skills would be too much for Duran. If he didn't pull another "no mas", Mayweather wins by unanimous decision....like one of the other poster's said, the second Leonard/Duran fight is very instructive and I don't think Mayweather would harbor any illusions about beating Duran in a slugfest like Sugar Ray did the first time around.

I believe that Roberto Duran is the greatest lightwewight fighter of all time and an outstanding fighter at welter and middleweight divisions too! Mayweather is an outstanding boxer with quick hands while the clever Duran with the Hands of Stone is always looking to counter with crushing right hands. This would be a very tough match with Duran landing the harder and crisper punches. I believe that Duran would win a close decision in a great fight.

I agree with Brad Morris in a way, Floyd would definately try and use his speed and skills to out fox Duran, but ive still got Duran as one of the best 2 Lightweights of alltime sharing that title in my eyes with Benny Leonard, so it would be hard to pick pbf over Duran, I would hope Duran in his prime would catch him and knock him clean out, hopefully putting him down about 6 times before KOing him.
I guess everybody might of realised by some of my previous answers on here that i am not a great admirer of Mayweather, its not even his fault that i dont like him, i just think he is overhyped and overrated.

Duran. When he fought Leonard the first time he was already past his prime. The smaller the ring the better for Duran.watch film of Duran in his twenties;he was an animal that could hit with either hand.Hence his nickname:"Hands of Stone".
