When I was a teenager I used to be obese and by the time I was about 17 years old I lost a total of 70 pounds, and I've never had problems with excess skin. Make sure that you lose weight healthily and gradually, I've found that this prevents you from having excess skin problems. Remember that even if you are a few pounds overweight I'm sure that you're beautiful, and it does take a very long time to shed those pounds so be patient.

For weight loss of just 40 lbs loose, flabby skin can be avoided easily by just exercising(toning and strength training especially) and losing the weight slowly.

Well, a 16 year old's skin has more elasticity and is thicker so it is harder for her to be flabby when attempting to lose weight than for a 26 or 36 year old. Now is the best time to lose weight but try to lose it slowly regardless of age. Good luck!

If you loose it at a fast rate yes it takes time for the skin to shrink there's nothing you can do about it. You can try using lotions with collagen but I've never found that to help either. I wouldn't worry so much about the skin. Which is more important being overweight of having to wait for your excess skin to shrink because you've lost all that weight?

If the weight is lost sensibly and exercise and toning are done during the weight loss, the possibility of flabby skin is GREATLY reduced. If the weight loss is rapid or there is no exercising, the possibility does exist.

I think as long as you don't lose it all in one month, and exercise and tone up as you lose the weight, there is enough elasticity in your skin that it will be okay.
