If a religion is stereotyped, it the the religious person's duty to correct the stereotype. If you are Christian, accept atheists, agnostics, and all other faiths as being just as likely right as you, and accept that you may be wrong. If Muslim, speak out against the extremists, let your opinion be just as heard. If any other religion, be an example and actually prove the stereotype wrong.

Let's see - MAYBE because SOME individuals use violence, destruction and terror in the name of THEIR RELIGION. Is this stereotyping or just a reflection of the truth?
Faith and spirituality come from within - it's not wrapped around your head.
If you don't want to be profiled for the acts of terror that this religion has claimed, then rid yourself of its religious garb and speak out against these acts. How about forming strong governed organizations to abolish this group that's putting you in this uncomfortable situation?

For the same reason that people stereotype anything else. It takes lots of time and effort to get enough details about any subject so that an expressed opinion can be based on good data rather than a possibly erroneous first impression.

It makes it easier to talk about, and because even though not everyone is the same, there are some groups of people who act the same and thus are stereotyped together.
When someone stereotypes, people should just realize that they are probably talking about a group of people near them who they see and are thus addressing, and that it is not a personal comment toward yourself.

They are just so close minded and arrogant that they believe no one's religion is right except theirs. It's a sad thing people are like that, but it is a reality. But don't let what they tell you bother you. You are entitled to your beliefs too!

dunno perhaps it has to do with an emotional problem. if someone gets called dumb/ignorant/hellbound/sinner constantly by a few christians (especially if this is his first encounters) he begins to think that all christians are like that. if some canadian down here and the first americans he met were real @$$holes to him, hed get the general idea that all of us are that way.
