Helloooo...
There's not fixed amount I'm afraid and it's not the same as driving a car.
The offence is "Being drunk in charge of an animal on/in highway/public place". (Although you can be nicked for just being drunk without the animal - hehe). The best definition of being "drunk" would be that described in a dictionary - and it does not come under the same legislation as drink driving.
You can be arrested for it under Section 12 of the Licencing Act 1872. The penalty is up to a month in prison OR a fine.
In which case, it depends how much of a lightweight you are??? :o)
If you can stand up, walk a line without waivering, hold a rational conversation without slurring your words, and still be in full control of your bodliy functions after 3 pints, then enjoy yourself.
Just be careful, yeah!?

I wouldn't have any, just like I wouldn't half any if I was driving. An out of control horse can cause accidents the same way as an out of control car but with two differences - a horse is living and you have less protection.

well depends how well trained the horse is and if he can find his way home lol
i worked at a stables and regularly did a pub ride in the summer where a few of the rider got into a right state, one managed to climb aboard, sat with a smirk on his face then just slid to the side and fell to the floor the horse just look at him as if to say twit

I don't remember the exact charge but a man in Kentucky was arrested, drunk, riding his horse through town. He was actually passed out on the horse, told officers that the horse "knows the way home".

As far as I know the limit is the same! But remember that animals often react badly if you've had a drink. They don't always come over all responsible and see you safely home. Plus your reflexes are dulled so no jumping on the way home.

The same as it would take to be declared "drunk in public". We have some here that rode bicycles to avoid a drunk driving charge. That didn't work either.

none, i dont know the legal amount but not only is it a threat to other road users, even in a field its an animal under the riders control and it deserves to be looked after and not put at risk from mishandling
